My Book

My background is architecture and I have been in private practice since 1976. My interest turned from renovation of the fine old buildings in Chicago to mainstream remodeling when I moved to Des Moines, Iowa, a growing city without the quantity of historic jewels of Chicago.

I actually backed into writing when some of my remodeling projects were noticed by magazine editors. Once known by the editors for quality remodeling projects they could feature, I was asked to produce articles on remodeling because my subject knowledge of this subject, not necessarily because of my flowing prose.

I’ve gone on to judge the Better Homes and Gardens Home Improvement contest for ten years, exposing me to literally thousands of remodeling projects all over the country. It was a great honor and an even greater learning experience.
